Positive attitude

**Positive attitudes

A positive attitude is essential to happiness, joy, and progress in life. This state of mind brings light, hope and enthusiasm into the life of those who possess it.

Adopting it in your life does not mean that everything will always move smoothly and there will be no bumps on the road. However, it ensures that any setback you might encounter will not stop you or change your state of mind, and that you will go on, try again, and do your best despite any setback.

What Does a Positive Attitude Mean?

Positive attitude is a state of mind that envisions and expects favorable results.
The willingness to try doing new things
The belief that everything would turn all right
It is an attitude that helps you see the good in people.
It is a mental attitude that sees the good and the accomplishments in your life, rather than the negative and the failures.
A positive attitude is a mindset that helps you see and recognize opportunities.
Positive attitude means positive thinking
It is optimism and maintaining a positive mindset
It is a mental attitude that focuses on the bright side of life
It is a mindset that uses the words, “I can”, and “it is possible”.

** Character Traits of People with a Positive Attitude

A positive attitude is mental outlook of optimism and of expecting good things to happen. People who possess this attitude are easier to get along with, are happy, and they spread joy around them.
A person with a positive state of mind does not dwell on the problems and difficulties of the past, and does not let them dictate his or her life. Such a person would rather learn from past mistakes and move on.
A positive attitude can affect your life favorably in all areas. People with a positive outlook, view life, challenges, and the situations they go through, with confidence and are sure they can deal with them.
These people would not be stuck in a negative attitude of fear, lack of self-esteem and passivity. People with a positive attitude will not let failure or obstacles stand in their way, and will always try to find ways to overcome them.

** Develop the Qualities of People with a Positive Attitude

Start by dumping your negative thoughts. Do you often think about failure, and how bad your life is? You need to stop doing this. These thoughts perpetuate the negative situations.
A positive attitude brings positive opportunities.

Positive people are easily approachable and more likeable than someone who is constantly looking at the negative side of things.  In terms of networking opportunities, you are more likely to meet uplifting and beneficial individuals if you have a winning attitude and positive presence about you.  A positive person is open to expanding their social circle to open the door to great opportunities.

** A positive attitude can land you the job

If you go into an interview with a negative outlook, you’re more likely to underperform and fail to accurately represent yourself.  Keep your head high and maintain a positive outlook on the job process and you’ll be even more prepared to nail that interview.  A positive attitude will help you shake the nerves and leave you relaxed and easy to talk to.  Employers are looking for employees who will not only contribute good work, but also illuminate an uplifting energy to coworkers in the office.

** A positive attitude will help you quickly bounce back from a sickness.

Just as a support system improves the healing process, a positive attitude will work in the same ways to help you feel better faster.  Your attitude really does affect your health.

** A positive attitude makes your presence enjoyable.

Honestly, who wants to be around a Debbie Downer?  People in your social circle, as well as professionals you are networking with, will be more inclined to spend time with you if you bring a positive attitude to the conversation.  People enjoy being in the presence of others who have the ability to lift them up when they are feeling down with a happy demeanor – be that person!

** A positive attitude will lead you to a successful life.

Winston Churchill said, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.”  Everyone deals with setbacks at some point in their life, but it’s important to keep your eyes on the prize and keep trucking.  Hard work, high energy and a positive outlook will guide you towards great success, despite the challenges you meet along the way.

**  Treat yourself to some self-care every day.

It’s always important to take care of both your physical and mental health. It can feel overwhelming when you’re working a full-time job that requires you to constantly interact with people -- whether they be customers, prospects, co-workers, or managers -- in often high-pressure situations.

In order to keep moving forward with a positive attitude, it’s essential that you take a step back sometimes and treat yourself to something special. Self-care is all the rage these days -- for good reason. And, it doesn’t always have to involve a nighttime soak in the bath with candles and a glass of wine -- although that sounds lovely, too.

Consider the ways you can unwind, de-stress, and have some “you” time. Some examples are doing a face mask, watching a movie, baking, calling a friend, getting takeout, or even just saying “no” to plans and, instead, staying in. No matter what it is, you should get into the habit of practicing something every day. By allowing yourself these moments of pure bliss and rest, you can ensure a more positive attitude when you’re on the work grind.

**  Start every morning strong.

It’s easier to maintain a positive attitude all day if you implement it right when you open your eyes. That dreaded moment when the alarm goes off can often lead to irritation, which sets you on the path to have a negative attitude all day.

Instead, think about some ways to make your morning the best part of your day -- especially if you’re not a morning person. Consider waking up a half hour or an hour earlier than usual. This means getting into bed earlier, too! Give yourself time to do the things you love but may not always have time for; go for a run, relish in a hot shower, have a cup of coffee, and actually make a breakfast (And, no, granola bars and frozen waffles don’t count.). Put on your favorite music or show, or even whip out a book, and start your morning doing something you love while enjoying your delicious, home-cooked meal.

When your morning is more productive and less rushed, you’ll be sure to head to work in higher spirits. That morning glow will spread throughout your day, and then the cycle can repeat.

**  Avoid spreading gossip.

To many, gossip is their bread and butter. However, the mere act of saying things -- whether or not they are true -- behind someone’s back that you wouldn’t say to their face is negative. In the workplace, gossip leads to an unstable, unsafe, and disagreeable environment. After all, if you’re spreading rumors about your coworkers, chances are they’re doing the same about you … yikes.

It can be hard to avoid gossip, but simply refuse to get involved. If someone tries to reveal to you a dramatic story about a coworker, simply decline and tell them you’d rather not participate. While that may feel odd to do, you’ll actually find that you feel lighter when not carrying the weight of secrets. And, when you’re not talking about other people, you can feel more confident that others are keeping their lips zipped about you. And that’s a reason to feel optimistic.

How is success possible?

** Self confidence

What is Self-Confidence?

This is likely the most used term for these related concepts outside of psychological research, but there is still some confusion about what exactly self-confidence is.

Psychology Dictionary Online defines self-confidence as an individual’s trust in his or her own abilities, capacities, and judgments, or belief that he or she can successfully face day to day challenges and demands.

Self-confidence also brings about more happiness. Typically, when you are confident in your abilities you are happier due to your successes. When you are feeling better about your capabilities, the more energized and motivated you are to take action and achieve your goals.

Self-confidence is extremely important in almost every aspect of our lives, yet so many people struggle to find it. Sadly, this can be a vicious circle: people who lack self-confidence can find it difficult to become successful.

Confident people inspire confidence in others: their audience, their peers, their bosses, their customers, and their friends. And gaining the confidence of others is one of the key ways in which a self-confident person finds success.

** Confident  Behavior

Behavior Associated With low Self-Confidence

Doing what you believe to be right, even if others mock or criticize you for it.
Governing your behavior based on what other people think.
Being willing to take risks and go the extra mile to achieve better things. Staying in your comfort zone, fearing failure, and so avoid taking risks.
Admitting your mistakes, and learning from them. Working hard to cover up mistakes and hoping that you can fix the problem before anyone notices.
Waiting for others to congratulate you on your accomplishments. Extolling your own virtues as often as possible to as many people as possible.
The good news is that self-confidence really can be learned and built on. And, whether you’re working on your own confidence or building the confidence of people around you, it’s well-worth the effort!

What is Self-Esteem?

The most influential voices in self-esteem research were, arguably, Morris Rosenberg and Nathaniel Branden. In his 1965 book, Society and the Adolescent Self-Image, Rosenberg discussed his take on self-esteem and introduced his widely used accepted Self-Esteem Scale.

A Free PDF of the Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale is available here.

His definition of self-esteem rested on the assumption that it was a relatively stable belief about one’s overall self-worth. This is a broad definition of self-esteem, defining it as a trait that is influenced by many different factors and is relatively difficult to change.

In contrast, Branden believes self-esteem is made up of two distinct components: self-efficacy, or the confidence we have in our ability to cope with life’s challenges, and self-respect, or the belief that we are deserving of happiness, love, and success (1969). The definitions are similar, but it is worth noting that Rosenberg’s definition relies on beliefs about self-worth, a belief which can have wildly different meanings to different people, while Branden is more specific about which beliefs are involved in self-esteem.
Positive affirmations

What are Positive Affirmations

Affirmations help purify our thoughts and restructure the dynamic of our brains so that we truly begin to think nothing is impossible. The word affirmation comes from the Latin affirmare, originally meaning "to make steady, strengthen."
Affirmations do indeed strengthen us by helping us believe in the potential of an action we desire to manifest. When we verbally affirm our dreams and ambitions, we are instantly empowered with a deep sense of reassurance that our wishful words will become reality.
Affirmations are proven methods of self-improvement because of their ability to rewire our brains. Much like exercise, they raise the level of feel-good hormones and push our brains to form new clusters of “positive thought”

Fortunately, positive affirmations are almost as easy to define as they are to practice. Put simply, they are positive phrases or statements used to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts.

Practicing positive affirmations can be extremely simple, and all you need to do is pick a phrase and repeat it to yourself.

You may choose to use positive affirmations to motivate yourself, encourage positive changes in your life, or boost your self-esteem. If you frequently find yourself getting caught up in negative self-talk, positive affirmations can be used to combat these often subconscious patterns and replace them with more adaptive narratives.

Is There Science Behind Them?

Science, yes. Magic, no. Positive affirmations require regular practice if you want to make lasting, long-term changes to the ways that you think and feel. The good news is that practice and popularity of positive affirmations is based on widely accepted and well-established psychological theory.

The Psychological Theory Behind Positive Affirmations

One of the key psychological theories behind positive affirmations is self-affirmation theory (Steele, 1988). So, yes, there are empirical studies based on the idea that we can maintain our sense of self-integrity by telling ourselves (or affirming) what we believe in positive ways.

Very briefly, self-integrity relates to our global self-efficacy—our perceived ability to control moral outcomes and respond flexibly when our self-concept is threatened (Cohen & Sherman, 2014). So, we as humans are motivated to protect ourselves from these threats by maintaining our self-integrity.

Self-Identity and Self-Affirmation

Self-affirmation theory has three key ideas underpinning it. They are worth having in mind if we are to understand how positive affirmations work according to the theory.

First, through self-affirmation, we keep up a global narrative about ourselves. In this narrative, we are flexible, moral, and capable of adapting to different circumstances. This makes up our self-identity (Cohen & Sherman, 2014).

Self-identity (which we’re seeking to maintain, as mentioned before) is not the same as having a rigid and strictly defined self-concept. Instead of viewing ourselves in one “fixed” way, say as a “student” or a “son”, our self-identity can be flexible. We can see ourselves as adopting a range of different identities and roles. This means we can define success in different ways, too.
